On Friday evening, our friend Andrew took us to see Belle and Sebastian at The Wang Theatre in Boston. It was his wedding present to us, and it was magical from the moment we stepped foot inside the gilded vestibule. Belle and Sebastian sounded every bit as crisp and clear as they do on their recordings. Within minutes of the band taking the stage, the entire crowd was on its feet and didn’t sit until the final bow.

Highlights of the evening included Stuart Murdoch, Stuart Murdoch, and Stuart Murdoch. OK, OK, Mick was freaking adorable, too. Anyway, highlights — Stuart applied eye makeup to a female audience member’s eyes; the band threw footballs out to the wee members of the audience (a nod to their aging hipster fanbase); and finally, my favorite, Stuart ran straight up the aisle in our direction! I ran out to greet him and damn it, if he didn’t look the other way.

The video above is from their new album Write About Love (it’s really great!). Enjoy!

Montreal based Yellow Bird Project created this coloring book with illustrations and activities from artist Andy J. Miller. With tributes to various bands and 100% of royalties going to charity, this coloring book is a worthy purchase for any aged hipster.

If you love music, then you know how important creating the ultimate listening experience can be. And most likely, you’re willing to go to the ends of the earth to achieve the ultimate sound. If you fall into this category (I believe the experts call these people audiophiles) then you’ll love the Zikmu speakers from Parrot by Philippe Starck. Not only are they gorgeous specimens of listening innovation, they’re also wireless! No more hideous speaker wires laying about the floorboards of your apartment! Now because of the built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies, music can be transmitted through the ether and emitted through the speaker (excuse the rhyme). Plus, the Zikmus also feature NXT technology, which makes room placement a no-brainer — sound automatically adapts to the acoustics of the room. And as is becoming requisite, they also feature an iPod/iPhone docking station. Of course, as expected, these beauties aren’t cheap. At $1600 they might set you back a bit, but then again, music’s never sounded so good.

The Calgary-based musician got his start in music as a busker and went on to be signed by Flemish Eye and Sub Pop. You should definitely listen to “Whisper Tree” — my favorite from his most recent record — in which he’s accompanied by a plucky banjo, and at times his voice melodically quivers just like the prodigal Stevens. Plus there’s something about the honest sounding key signature that strikes a sad chord in your heart.

Listen to “Whisper Tree”
