How to Raise and Train a Dachshund reminds me of this book my father gave me called How to Raise a Dog in the City. With no copyright info in front of me, I’d have to say both books are circa 1960s and serve as high-brow precursors to the Dachshunds for Dummies, et al., series we purchased when we became the proud owners of a rambunctious little dachshund-schanuzer named Dollar. We thought we were getting a dachshund, but in hindsight, our hybrid “designer” pup is truly better than a pure bred, as these photos can attest, from grooming to coddling to outright stubbornness dachshunds are quite a handful!

Originally from South Carolina, Leah Duncan now lives in Austin, Texas with her husband and family of cats and foster puppies. Leah received her bachelors in commercial printing, and has since developed a multitude of skills in illustration, design, and textiles. Inspired by the small moments in her life life, nature, folk art, children’s illustrations, and currently southwestern culture, her style is both delicate and unexpectedly quirky. All of her prints are original ink drawings that are scanned, digitally colored, and then silkscreened or giclee printed.

Lucky for you, Leah Duncan has donated one of her beautiful prints as well as a tea towel for today’s giveaway! This 5×7 print is made with pigment inks that guarantee years of quality and bright colors. The tea towels are made from organic fair trade absorbent cotton and measure to about 18″ x 30″ to allow for shrinkage in the wash. The towels are perfect for drying hands or dishes…or even as a handsome wall hanging! With the next few months being filled with house guests and hours in the kitchen, what a perfect opportunity to amp up your decor and impress your company with Leah’s quaint works of art.

This morning I got this text “Google ‘Bobby Dazzler’ immediately” from my friend Matt. Ordinarily I might have waited a few hours, but being as Matt is in London on vacation — which means he texted me from London, which means international texting rates apply — I knew the Google was of utmost importance.

Well, here’s what I found:

Only the cutest, most squeeziest plush dolls ever! All Bobby Dazzlers (and there a slew of them!) are handmade in London using reclaimed fabric and buttons. They can be purchased online, and Rosie and Fumie will do custom orders — they just need a picture! Bobby Dazzlers are available in human and animal varieties, with four collections including Wild West, Woodland Folk, Entertainers, and Explorers. Absolutely fabulous!

Hor d’ouevres were served — the mini pumpkin pies were quite lovely — libations flowed, and all of the participants were allowed to use West Elm’s products to style their pop-up shops.

My favorite pop-ups of the evening were the leathergoods by Rennes and the spun cotton creations from Vintage by Crystal.

Rennes colorful, thoughtfully informed leather selections caught my eye immediately. And I was happy to discover that they felt wonderfully supple, too. I got to chat with Julia, the talent behind the operation, she was super sweet, and picked a fantastic forest green iPhone case, too!

I also got to meet Crystal, which was awesome because I gave two of her sculptures for Christmas gifts last year. We had a blast chatting for a good 30 minutes. I learned that she has a BFA in graphic design and after working for a corporate entity, decided it was time to pursue her passion to create! Since taking the big leap, she’s been on The Martha Stewart Show three times (one of which she got engaged!) and now works full-time making her fabulous sculptures. I made my third purchase from her and picked up a gangly little leopard boy. SO CUTE!
