Founded in 2002 by Megumi Matsubara — whose solo designs are supported by Assistant — Hiroi Ariyama, and Motohiro Sunouchi, Tokyo-based design studio Assistant explores spatial concepts through the use of objects, interior design, installation art, graphic design, etc. To get a sense of what Assistant is about check out these past projects.

“Tremors Were Forever: Remember Le Corbusier,” Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, 2007

“Lightness, or absolute absence of weight,” Tokyo Cow Parade, 2008

“Totoro House” for Vujj, London Design Week, 2006
Megumi Matsubara with Assistant’s most recent project BOORJUM is on view through February 2009 at the Denim Diesel Gallery in Tokyo and uses machines in a Rube Goldberg-like manner to represent “balance in nonsense.”
