As a youngster, I couldn’t imagine myself ever wearing gold jewelry like my mother. Gold was for women and grandmothers, which I certainly was not. In my mind, silver was the Coupe DeVille of metals, and I actually envisioned someday inheriting my mother’s gold jewelry and then having it all reset in silver, eek!

Which is why I find it funny that I like this Nixon watch — of course I’ve started wearing gold — because it’s so enormous and gold and kind of gaudy, and it’s everything I thought I never wanted.
