Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction.

April 16th, 2008 · 4 Comments

I’ve always had a penchant for cars. I grew up in a family where buying, selling, restoring, and collecting cars was an everyday occurrence. When I was six years old my father literally brought home a new car every month to restore and resell. On one particular occasion, he purchased a Lexus coupe that may or may not have had bullet holes in the windshield. It was splattered with paint and had no interior seating — my dad drove it home sitting on top of phone books. To attest his skill, he transformed that car back into its original appearance and added another notch to his car restoration belt.

Flipping cars is an art. Buy low, sell high, make a profit. But where do car guys find these cars? The classifieds are a great jumping off point, but a true enthusiast heads to the auto auction where rows and rows of cars await their bidding. Perhaps the most famous auction block in the nation — it’s televised on the Speed network (which you probably never knew existed) — is the Barrett-Jackson Auction.

At its most recent Palm Beach auction, attendees had the rare opportunity to bid on cars featured in the now-defunct and much-beloved HBO series, The Sopranos. The cars on-hand included, Tony’s Escalade, Paulie’s CTS Cadillac, and even Vito’s wrecked Cadillac Deville — I guess these guys had a thing for Caddy’s, my grandfather did, too.

It’s Maggie Grace from Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson’s new movie, “Faster”. Probably crap, but it has to be better than “The Tooth Fairy”
