The Fierceness that is Christian Siriano

March 6th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Christian Siriano won Project Runway! What an amazing collection — deftly constructed pieces oozing with drama. Michael Kors had a valid point though when he said, “The details get lost using so much black.” I was looking through the runway show online and I had trouble noticing the layers of fabric and the detail in each piece.

This season, the judges satisfied me. Usually I go for the more fashion-forward designs, those not headed for mass-retail department stores, and I’m always disappointed. They usually pick the designer capable of designing for the everyday-consumer, not the fashion icon. And while I have complete faith that Christian will be a fixture in the high-fashion world, he can design for the masses if prompted, too. Clearly Victoria Beckham was smitten with both the boy wonder and his collection, and I think that had an affect on the judges final decision. His collection spoke to her; the judges saw that, and they know she is a “major” trend indicator. I predict Beckham will be wearing one of his designs in an upcoming red-carpet appearance and Christian will be showing at Bryant Park in September.
