L.A. Fashion Week

March 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Did last week’s Mercedes Benz’s L.A. Fashion Week — perhaps more aptly titled National Lampoon’s L.A. Fashion Week — seal L.A.’s fate as the black sheep of fashion industry week-longs? The overwhelming presence of poorly constructed, nauseatingly over-the-top pieces, left me wondering if there were designer entry standards; the ability to sew (albeit, not very well) seemed to be the only prerequisite. Granted, not everything was horrible, but how seriously can you take an event that allows Lauren Conrad from The Hills to cavort her exhaustive, I.N.C.-replica pieces down a runway? However boring her collection (and it was a yawn), there were actually worse designs shown, as evidenced below. If Los Angeles ever plans to be a major semi-annual player it should nix the pseudo-reality TV stars and raise the bar a little higher.
